Knauf KWC A116 is a high performing, cost effective wall system designed to meet the high requirements of sound reduction and fire resistance for modern day cinemas.

The Knauf KWC A116 Cinema system is a V-braced double-stud system installed full height between floor and soffit structure providing excellent acoustic performance as well as fire protection up to 3 hours.

The wall, not less than 450mm footprint to reach Cinema sound reduction requirements, consists of two rows of parallel vertical 3 1/2” (89 mm) CW-profiles spaced at max. 24” (610 mm) centres, each one braced by V-braces extended to a UW runner at 2m vertical centres from one row to the other for heights up to 15m. The CW-profiles are braced between UW 89mm floor track and deep flange head tracks that are fastened to the primary supporting structure. 3 layers of Knauf 5/8“ (15.9 mm) Type X gypsum boards are screw-fixed horizontally to the external sides of the double stud frame with both horizontal and vertical joints staggered from layer to layer.

Sealing of all junctions between the facing boards and the primary structures are kept flexible with Knauf Approved fire and acoustic sealant providing the necessary air-tightness in case of fire. A 3 1/2” (89 mm) un-faced glass-fibre blanket of 16kg/m3 density is placed between the  studs of each row preventing reverberation inside the void.

  • Knauf Flooring Solutions

Knauf Flooring Systems specializes in raised flooring systems and access floors allowing for a multitude of possibilities. This is probably the best way to describe the character Of GIFAfloor - You can depend on the durability and high load-carrying capacity of these floors. The cornerstone for the high stability is already laid during the production of the plasterboards. The unique winding process by Knauf Integral determines the homogenous material structure before the extremely high compressing to 1500 kg/m³ and more takes place in the subsequent pressing process.

You can obtain GIFAfloor as panelled access floor green ware or sheet-panelled access floor with tongue and groove edging in various material thicknesses, and with standard or individual grid dimensions.

All components are optimally coordinated to one another. The panels are supplied to the construction site ready-to-lay, a surface primer applied at the factory protects the boards during transportation and laying, ensuring the full hardwearing capabilities of the floor right from the start.

Module 1 - Partition Systems

Objective:

By the end of today’s training you will have the skill to install a Knauf drywall partition with confidence and in accordance with the required installation standard ASTM C754 & C840 or EN BS 8212.

General:

Throughout this training session we aim to take you through the step by step process on how to correctly assemble a drywall partition system, we will start with the basic Knauf W111 system and work up to the higher performing Knauf W115/W116 system. We look at speed of installation, quality of work and material wastage that can all play a major factor when it comes to cost saving.

Partition Standards to be discussed - BS 5234-1, EN 1364-1, ISO 10140-1 / 717-1, ASTM E119, E90, and E2226 & E1966
This training is both practical and theoretical where we will begin with understanding the values and performance criteria’s for each drywall system. We will discuss the structural performances that are related to drywall and how to manage to interpret these, also the fire resistance is a crucial part of the drywall system and again we will explain in depth how we determine these factors. We will explain the standards to which we perform testing for fire resistance and why we have to perform to specific standards; videos of the fire test will also be shown so that individuals get the opportunity to see exactly what we are discussing. Another important aspect of the drywall partition in relation to performance is the acoustical performance; this varies from system to system as there are many factors that impact significantly on the acoustical performance.

Knauf have many drywall partitions from the basic W111 through to the W116, these systems all have different performances that tailor to each individual’s needs. Some walls are designed with 1, 2 or even 3 layers of gypsum boards attached this can be down to many factors again structural, fire or sound. So Knauf test every system and therefor have the data to understand the performance of each and every wall so when a specification is needed we can simply choose the best suited system. Over the training session we will perform a small task of looking at specifications and matching them to the best suited system of Knauf.

The practical part of the training will involve installing a full scale drywall system from start to finish whereby you get the opportunity to feel and use the material yourself, this will involve cutting metal profiles and gypsum boards along with having to finish them to an acceptable level of standard. You will install using all the latest Knauf tools whereby you will then get the opportunity to see the importance of using appropriate tools.

Module 2 - Drywall Ceilings

Objective:
By the end of today’s training you will have the skill to install a Knauf drywall Ceiling system with confidence and in accordance with the required installation standard ASTM C754 & C840 or EN BS 8212.

General:
This training is to help you understand the available ceiling systems that are on offer with Knauf LLC, and provide you with the skill and ability to be able to install them in accordance with the correct standard.
We aim to help improve efficiency at site and improve the overall quality perception of the trainees. Also we look at material consumption to help avoid waste at site that can then create a saving on material.

Ceiling Standards to be discussed – EN 13964:2014 & ASTM C635-13a
During this training module you will get the opportunity to understand the requirements that come with developing a ceiling system, it isn’t a simple matter of putting random profiles together and having a designed ceiling system.
There are many aspects that need to be assessed from the profile manufacturing through to the individual product testing then on to system testing, it all becomes a lot more stringent as when it comes to a ceiling this is above your head and any failure in the performance can prove far more severe than that of a wall system.

At Knauf LLC we have many ceiling systems that suit different areas, we can provide fire rated ceilings, design ceiling with features and free spanning ceiling that are great for areas that have not so much space for suspension. All these system are different and comply with a range of different standards so it is very important to understand what we have and what we can provide, this training will provide you exactly this through explaining each system in details and allowing you the opportunity to install all ceilings yourself and get the feel of how they perform.
Some ceilings are purely there for decorative purposes and to hide any defects or equipment that may be above, others can be there for specific performance requirements that have been set. Some ceiling need to be tested to comply with the expectation of any ground movement (earthquake) and this can be specified at many different levels, so it is important that all this data is available with Knauf in order to ensure we can sell our systems. Again this is a topic that will be covered within this training session.

Finishing a ceiling system is different to that of a wall as any reflective light will highlight any joint areas far more that what it will on a wall system. So much more care is required with ceilings when tape & Jointing, you will get the opportunity throughout the training to apply some finishing products upon the joints and see the effect for yourself.

Module 3 - Shaftwalls

Objective:
By the end of today’s training you will have the skill to install a Knauf Shaftwall system with confidence and in accordance with the required installation standard ASTM C754 & C840 or EN BS 8212.

General:
The aim of this training module is to help you understand the specific requirements that are needed for the installation of a Knauf Shaftwall and also to understand where this system is typically used as this is not and everyday drywall system.

Shaftwall Standards to be discussed - BS 8212 & ASTM C840, C754, E119 & E1966
The Knauf Shaftwall is a very unique system that is designed using the C-T stud designed stud, this allows for the system to constructed from one side only and therefore works perfectly for the installation of shaftwall (walls that are surrounding an elevator shaft) where access from the inside is fully restricted.

This system achieves very acceptable heights and has a good fire resistant performance. The system is designed using a 25mm Coreboard that is friction fitted within the C-T studs so one side of the wall is technically not screw fixed, however once the outer- side id cladded and fixed it all holds together and becomes a very robust system.

Installation of the Shaftwall system can be very quick especially the more that you use this system. Throughout the training you will have the opportunity to install a full Shaftwall system along with door openings that are uniquely designed for this system. Also you will get to look at the deflection head designs that are available for this system, this is important as due to the areas where this system is installed there is usually very high pressure and movement so the need for a deflection head detail that allows the wall to contract and extract is important.
This training will help you as an installer improve you efficiency of work that can then reflect on the overall quality finishing for the job in question. We also aim to help candidates understand the material consumption to avoid waste, this reflects well at site as there will not be so much waste and costs can be saved.

Module 4 - Cinema Solutions

Objective:
By the end of today’s training you will have the skill to install the Knauf Cinema wall systems with confidence and in accordance with the required installation standard ASTM C754 & C840

General:
This training is designed to help you understand the available drywall cinema solutions that are within the Knauf range, we have both high rise walls that have high acoustic and fire values through to the mass barrier ceiling system.
Partition Standards to be discussed - ASTM E119, E90, and E2226
This training is both practical and theoretical where we will begin with understanding the values and performance criteria’s for the available cinema systems both walls and ceiling. At Knauf we have 2 differently designed wall systems, firstly the V-brace system that combines of 2 separate walls braced together by means of an acoustic bracket and secondly the U-stud system that is a cleverly designed u shaped profile that is extremely robust. Then we have the mass barrier ceiling that has the unique Knauf phonic hanger system that improves the acoustical performance dramatically.

The aim of the training is to help candidates understand that when it comes to drywall in Cinemas there are major differences from that of a standard residential drywall system. Firstly the fire performance is greater and the overall structural height of the walls is significantly increased, so being able to meet these needs is demanding and every little detail of installation is important. The most important performance value when it comes to cinema systems is the acoustical performance, usually this is tested at site so the need to achieve the given values are crucial and this is where installation of the system becomes very specific, changing the smallest of detail can impact significantly on the sound performance so this is why this training is important.

Throughout the training you will get to install both the V-brace and U-stud system along with the mass barrier ceiling, we will look at all the specific details that are needed in order to achieve the desired performance levels. You will also learn how to install the system in the most professional of manners and this will improve efficiency and waste at site. You also get the opportunity to use top end tools that specific to the job in question and these can impact greatly on the overall quality and speed of the installation.

Module 5 - Drywall Finishing

Objective:
Upon completion of this training you will understand and have the Knowledge on how to apply and finish a drywall system to an acceptable standard

General
Throughout this training we will be discussing the performance qualities of the Knauf finishing compounds, then working with the products in order to be become competent in applying them through different means of application. We will cover both hand applied and machine sprayed compounds.

Finishing compound standards to be discussed - ASTM C475/474, E136, D2373
The aim of this training session is to develop your knowledge and understanding on the available Knauf finishing compounds that are available. We will look at each product and see how and what it has been tested too, this will enable you to get a good idea of what the products are capable of, we will cover the fire characteristics of the products to understand how they perform under such conditions, also the we can see how the products perform under different environmental conditions such as wet and humid areas again through specific testing.
Finishing a drywall system is made up of 3 main items Joint tape, connection beads and filler, these all work together to provide a smooth and seamless surface finish. Surface finishing can be done to many different levels of quality, these quality levels range from Q1 through to Q5 and are described within each building standards. This training will help you understand these levels and what is expected of each level.

The training is very hand on where you will continuously applying compounds and seeking to get that desired finish, you will get the opportunity to apply compounds by hand and also through means of a spray machine. By doing this you will understand the reasoning for each application, although machine applied is fast it is not always the suitable option and this we will cover. Also the training instructor will demonstrate the application process from joint filling through to surface finishing this will allow you to see the correct methods for the installation, also we will show the ways in which you should not be applying such products and how the market is currently doing.

You will also have the opportunity to try the finishing application for yourself, using the available Knauf tools. This will give us the opportunity to showcase the available tools and give you the understanding on where these tools are used and for what purpose they serve. Also we will explain in detail the correct process that is needed in order to operate the spray application machine in a safe and professional manner.

Module 6 - Aquapanel

Aquapanel Indoor & Outdoor

Objective:
By the end of today’s training you will have the skill to install Aquapanel Indoor & Outdoor with confidence and in accordance with the required installation standard

General
This training is aimed at helping you understand what the Knauf Aquapanel board is capable of, we will discuss all the relevant standards that the boards have been tested to and then you will have time to install the boards and see for yourself how easy and versatile these boards are.
Partition Standards to be discussed - EN 1364-1 & ASTM C1325 A,B & ASTM E84 & E136
The Knauf Aquapanel board comes in 2 different designs one for Indoor applications such as shower rooms, Sauna’s and general wet areas. The Indoor board is especially good for use as a tile backer board as it is extremely robust and can support a heavier weight than your standard gypsum boards.

Secondly we have the Aquapanel outdoor board this board can be used for many applications, such as a ventilation Exterior constructions, curtain walls or simply direct application.
Both boards are uniquely designed so that they are flexible and therefore allowing you to apply this board to many creative designs. When it comes to the finishing of the aquapanel boards again this is very easy, for the indoor you have options of direct tile application of full surface finish and the outdoor again depending upon its application it can be finished to your satisfaction.

Throughout the training session you will install both the Aquapanel indoor and outdoor upon a framing system and see how easy the application is, you will also get the chance to witness the bending radius of the boards. The most interesting part of this training will be the finishing, along with the instructor you will work through step by step each process of the finishing treatment for both boards, this will help you understand exactly why there is this requirement and ensure that you can fulfill this process each time. This is important as the boards need to be fully sealed to ensure no penetration of water will pass through the board, especially for such applications as sauna’s and wet rooms.

By the end of this training you will leave with much more confidence and understanding of what the Knauf Aquapanel is all about and how to install it in the correct and most professional manner.
